CHARITY BALL 2009

A fabulous night was had by all who attended our 11th Charity Ball held on Saturday 28th March 2009 at the Strawberry Bank in Meriden. Our guests received a really good 3 course meal followed by the chance to dance off all those calories to the sounds of live band "Back in Time". Many prizes were won on our Grand Tombola and there were plenty of bids on our Silent Auction.

Provisional estimates are that we raised at least £2,000 that will go to Prostate Cancer Support and other Lions charities.

We are already planning our 12th event and if you would like more information about the event, or would like to book tickets, please contact us as follows:

Marston Green Litter Pick

We conducted another litter pick in Marston Green on the morning of Saturday 18th April 2009.

Quiz Night

On Friday 20th February we held a Quiz night at St Annes Social Club to raise funds for the Maria Watt Birmingham Foundation, a local charity based in Marston Green for childhood and teenage leukaemia. During the evening 25 teams battled it out in a bid to be the winning team, and had their brain cells suitably exercised by Quizmaster Neil!  A raffle, stand up bingo and rolling a pound coin to win a beautiful flower arrangement also added to the fun and funds, and by the end of the evening a grand total of £840.33 had been raised, as well as 9 old mobile phones which are being collected by the charity.

We would like to thank Quizmaster Neil for putting together such an enjoyable quiz, St Annes for providing the venue, those who donated the prizes and last but by no means least, everyone who came along on the night. We hope you enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you back at St Annes on Friday 18th September for our Fun Race night, again in aid of the Maria Watt Birmingham Foundation.

Citizen of the Year

Our Citizen of the Year for 2008 is Olive Deegans, who originally set up the VIPs ( a club for the visually impaired).  In spite of her own visual difficulties and mobility problems she works tirelessly, supporting other visually impaired people by providing a telephone help line from her own home and she is also the main organiser for VIP meetings and events.

We invited Olive along to one of our social evenings at St Annes, where she was presented with a Lions Certificate of Appreciation, flowers, a vase and a cheque for £100 for her chosen charity, Children in Need.

Pictures of the presentation have been added to the Gallery

Christmas Collections 2008

A very big thank you to the residents of Marston Green and Chelmsley Wood whose generosity helped us raise £3,000 from our Santa Sleigh collections last year. A big thank you too to Blooms Garden Centre and their customers who helped us raise another £900 from collections in the store.

30 Years, 30 Good Causes

In recognition of 30 years of service we were looking last year to support 30 good causes.

This support was in a number of ways not just financial and more details of the causes can be found here

30 Good Causes

Although our thirtieth year is now passed we are still here to help.

We may be able to offer manpower or we could run our fund-raising stalls at your event.

If you have an event to organise we may be able to offer advice and support.

If you know of a good cause within the Marston Green and Chelmsley Wood area send an e-mail to  or telephone 0753 176 9901.

Presentation Night

On Wednesday 25th June we held our annual presentation night. This time we presented cheques to Autism West Midlands, Acorns Childrens Hospice, St Annes Church Centre and Birmingham Irish Amateur Boxing Club. We also heard details from representatives of Solihull Young Carers about their day out at Wickstead Park, financed by the Club.

Charity Ball 2008

Last year's Charity Ball was at the St John's Hotel Solihull (formerly the Renaissance Hotel) and was in aid of Autism West Midlands, specifically their residential unit at Gorse Farm. The theme was Sapphire and Steel and the event took place on Saturday March 1st 2008. A great night with entertainment from Dave Dean (Vegas legends tribute act) and dancing to the Roaring Success Disco.

It was our 10th Charity Ball and raised £2500.

Charity Ball 2007

The Heart Failure Foundation were chosen as our charity for 2007s Charity Ball. We also decided to move venue and were at The Renaissance Hotel (now St John's Hotel) on  March 10th 2007. The event was a big success and we are back at the St John's this year. Last year's event raised over £3,000.
